Hey, #folkpunk crew, I've got a question about #MischiefBrew song, Roll Me Through the Gates of Hell.
Is it theirs originally,or a cover? I'm not seeing any clues on Bandcamp or YouTube that it's a cover, but lyrically, it's obviously written by a woman but sung by a man.
"I'm a bad girl with a hope for better days"
"There's nothing like a lady with a buzzsaw, I just might build your house..."
"I'll take those pretty dresses, tear em at the seams" (this one in particular has a whole other vibe from a male than a female imo).
Was it written by a female band member or friend of the band, or covered,or what?
It's kiddo's favourite song at the mo, so it's been on high rotation, and it's bugging me.
Funny how it's that time again the us are online... Gonna switch to #patthebunny then... Or maybe #mischiefbrew..
I'd like to
Send gratitude
And thanks
To those who
Had the courage to defy the mighty ranks
Send it to the students who wave the banners
Who held flowers up to the tanks
And to the ones who are still fighting
Yes, all my gratitude
And all my thanks
So as you sit baked and hammered
So grateful to be dead
Said freedom's here to chill out
So sit and rest your head
Think of those who fought for your right
The path you walked, they paved
And those who fought for your right
To carry it until today
...
I'd like to
Send out a head and a parting hand
To those who had the courage
To reach and rise and stand
Send it to the lovers and the fighters
To those who stood up and still stand
To those who will chain their wrists
And clench their fists
For here and faraway lands
Come lay down
They'll put you underwater
Like clay unto a potter
They'll wash the dirty clean
Let's hear your plan for a Natural World Order
Free trade across the borders
Gas efficient war machine
The debt tree needs a trimming
The poison earth needs weeding
Your houses are sinking
And the seas they are rising
It's all so inconvenient
Let's stall it while we can
And so its business as usual
Give the liberal a hand
[Chorus]
Hey mister talk radio for once we agree
That we can't afford no liberals in times like these
On our feet or on our backs and they're on their knees
No, we can't afford no liberals in times like these
Times like these

And the first day of may, well it quietly passed by,
And the bosses parade by the night
And you curse when I say words like "living" and "wage"
You say I've made my house out of mud, so should they
Now the ball field is level--let's play!
I pick up the bullets, the blood, and the rage
That went in there to stir up the eight hour day
Seems the masters have found themselves new rats to cage
And the price for a union is great
