So, I think this furnace is meant to be controlled only via an insulated relay or switch. Not the #Sonoff smart switch I was trying to use.

I could make up something with an #esp8266, #tasmota firmware and a #relay module, the ones used with the #arduino. I've everything on hand, but then I should find a box, a power supply, wire all separating the high voltage side from the rest... it's a lot of effort for a speedy project as this...

@torproject same with #obfs4 bridges: there is no option to say like ports=80,443 or similar, which makes it cumbersome to get said bridges.

And trying to get places to #DontBlockTor that criminalize the use of #Tor is foolish at best.

Contabo ToS Section 9.4: " (4) The Provider is entitled to immediately block any webspace packages and servers that are being used to operate the “TOR” service, insofar as the Provider has become aware that the server or package is being used unlawfully. "

I've just been notified that one of our production servers is going to be relocated to a different data hall by our infrastructure provider with about 2 weeks notice. Annoyingly it's the server that runs 3 of our web nodes for MastodonAppUK, Universeodon and the Universeodon relay.

I'm not expecting this to cause any public disruption, but will be spending this weekend getting things ready so I can migrate the traffic over prior to the server move happening. There may be some short notice maintenance over the coming weeks to ensure I can accommodate this and it doesn't cause an outage on move day.

A topical or community Fediverse Relays could be very useful (in addition to generic ones).

Ex: a Paleogenetics relay server, or an animal photography relay server, or a company focused relay server, etc

Especially for single-user, community, team, organization, themed, etc server instances

It would also help save storage space on server instances, by the relay being selective in what it shares.

Just added #tor #relay to my @yunohost instance. Consider running one yourself.
"The Tor network relies on volunteers to donate bandwidth. The more people who run relays, the better the Tor network will be. The current Tor network is quite small compared to the number of people who need to use Tor, which means we need more dedicated volunteers like you to run relays."

The #Fediverse is free, free of censorship, federated and full of great content!

Also the Fediverse - instance admins randomly blocking whole instances just because a single users feel offended of a post by a single instance user. Blocking whole instances is just a finger snip away, censoring unwanted content and parenting users of instances. Defederating just because of… ok no clue :) Using content warner for any possible content just to annoy or aeemmm make it more interesting to other users. Thanks, I’m old enough :) Seeing all the spam because it’s just a thing of 5 minutes automation to create randomly new instances on different domains (or subdomains from dynamic-ip hosters) and to fill the network with automated content.

Sometimes, pros can easily switch into cons… luckily more and more single user instances are raising up for exactly this reasons and can still easily federate by using relays…

One thing I like about that period in which the System Operator could literally see what you typed; the Age of UUCP and Usenet, way before www, is that there was something on those federated networks that we shall not easily get nor easily gain again;

Inherited Trust of the period was so beautiful. All the Networks are open and there were no trolls that could do any real damage.

Many decades have gone by, but I've now finally had contact with an actual Operator of a Usenet node. Thank you for your reaction

Do understand that all federated networks need relays, many, so that reach is increased, otherwise you'll end up having to wait hours to days before posts reach wider audiences

Low reachability means you will have to wait long times, just like I did in the UUCP days. We could only afford one dialup session of 60 minutes per week to upr2.clu.net.
So our reach / ping time was 7 days!!!

In order to better understand federated networks you should keep in min the following exerpt from the article

**Without a relay, communication across instances relies entirely on direct relationships between servers**

This was also the case with classic news servers and SMTP mail servers.

In my country I was one of the three people who brought the internet in fruition. Explicit detail is on my github {message me for details}
When we dailed from 454074 to upr2.clu.net we spoke UUCP with that big server in Puerto Rico. Our mail could only reach the rest of the world when upr2.clu.net pushed them to the upstream servers.

Upstream pushing could take days.

Relays simply tell the network that your server can send the traffic and they relay them to others, working like a classic network hub

BTW upr2.clu.net still runs, incarnated in a modern form (screencap included)
