#BikeLaneSweeper is just picking up broken bits of road caused by all of these cars. Why do we keep paying for these gigantic intersections that just make #transportation inconvenient and cost 4x as much to maintain? #stroads

@PDXDemSocialist #stroads = street + road and not doing either well. We lack the space for such a cross-section in many places but we could certainly make the outside lanes of every 4+ lane street be bus+turn-only/"bikes may use full lane". That gives good access to destinations by all modes, makes crossing safer, reduces speeding, & makes turning in or out in a car easier. Ultimately the bikeway network will be on side streets that don't go thru in a car, diverters force turns, reduce speed.

But the real idiots are the #trafficEngineers counting these excess lanes as additional throughput when in reality they're the source of crashes and congestion. A quick #BusLanes reconfiguration and traffic would flow better, turning would be easier, the bus would run on time, and finding that the bike lane suddenly ends or becomes unusable with debris and a clogged storm drain wouldn't be such a big deal. Half of car trips are less than 3 miles, many lead here. #InducedDemand #stroads
