Jay Baker<p>I facilitated an online workshop for <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://floss.social/@freetechproject" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>freetechproject</span></a></span> tonight and it's the first time we tackled technology to fight <a href="https://todon.eu/tags/Covid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Covid</span></a> (Co2 monitors, air purifiers, <a href="https://todon.eu/tags/HEPA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HEPA</span></a>, <a href="https://todon.eu/tags/CorsiRosenthal" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CorsiRosenthal</span></a> boxes, <a href="https://todon.eu/tags/NukitTempest" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NukitTempest</span></a>, etc) as well as why this is important (what Covid is, how it spreads, etc) and the small (predominantly older) group was very open to the ideas, sincerely inquisitive about the topic, interested in reducing risk, aware of inclusion issues, and sensitive to my own experiences as carer for a partner disabled by Covid. I'm also realising that people genuinely refer to "Covid" in the past tense sometimes because they wrongly associate it with government policy, while at the same time they very clearly understand that <a href="https://todon.eu/tags/CovidIsNotOver" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CovidIsNotOver</span></a>. My point is, keep tackling the topic, and keep giving folks the benefit of the doubt -- humans are of course good at heart and state policies, and obviously the establishment media, may very well indeed not, in fact, reflect people's actual concerns about Covid.</p>

Reducing Your Microplastic Exposure: D rinking filtered tap water rather than bottled water can reduce your microplastic intake by as much as 90%. #microplastics #bottles #containers #hepa

InstagramHoward G. Smith MD, AM on Instagram: "Reducing Your Microplastic Exposure Neurologists at Canada’s University of Ottawa, alarmed at the discovery of microplastic and nanoplastic particles in brains of those suffering from dementia, now offer concrete suggestions about how all of us can reduce this threat. They report that drinking filtered tap water rather than bottled water can reduce your microplastic intake by as much as 90%. Other studies have reported that that Americans who drink bottled water ingest a whopping 90,000 microplastic particles per year. Compare that figure to just 4,000 such particles for those who drink filtered tap water. Besides those plastic water bottles, there are other sources of this plastic blizzard that you can avoid. Plastic containers and plastic tea bags release millions of microplastic particles when you heat them. Instead use glass and metal containers, steep your tea in paper teabags or metal tea strainers, processed foods, and use HEPA air filters in your home to trap airborne microplastics. The investigators do offer some hope. The lack of microplastic accumulation with age suggests that our bodies eliminate these particles via sweating and the emptying of our bladders and bowels. Even so, the best bet is to reduce your exposure to these little demons. https://www.medicaldaily.com/this-simple-change-your-drinking-habit-can-cut-microplastics-90-473215 https://genomicpress.kglmeridian.com/view/journals/brainmed/aop/article-10.61373-bm025c.0020/article-10.61373-bm025c.0020.xml #microplastics #bottles #containers #hepa"0 likes, 0 comments - drhowardsmithreports on March 11, 2025: "Reducing Your Microplastic Exposure Neurologists at Canada’s University of Ottawa, alarmed at the discovery of microplastic and nanoplastic particles in brains of those suffering from dementia, now offer concrete suggestions about how all of us can reduce this threat. No sé si sabíais que he experimentado un retroceso importante de la alergia. No sabía qué era.

Ahora ya lo sé (movidas ambientales) y voy a tener que comprar un aparato con #filtro #HEPA en casa, al margen del deshumificador.

¿Me recomendáis aparatos no muy grandes, majos y no muy caros? Gracias.

Indoor air quality and ventilation folks… I need some help!

I’ve been dealing with terrible VOCs in my apartment that are making me sick. I’ve been trouble shooting for months but can’t figure out where they’re coming from.

My building has four MAUs (make up air units) on the roof that are supposed to pressurize the hallways and supply fresh air from the roof. They needed replacing, and when they were turned off the vocs in my unit dropped considerably.

Best as I can tell the pressurization must be causing excessive air leakage from someone else’s unit into mine.

I have to constantly keep a window open in order to run any exhaust fans, and they’re still high.

Here’s my latest dilemma. I’m in a tiny condo with just a living room and bedroom. Living room has a sliding door to a balcony and bedroom has a window.

I want to put a portable air conditioner in the bedroom as it runs ridiculously hot, but that will mean sealing off the window.

The portable unit comes with a hose to vent the unit out the window … so does that mean it will constantly ventilate as long as the unit is “on”?

If that’s the case it might actually help the VOCs, but I’m unsure if I’m understanding correctly.

I assume if the unit is “off” it would provide less fresh air than an open window, but appreciate any advice!

Hey #CleanAir folks, anyone have to hand the advice on how often to clean the pre-filter for your #HEPA air purifier? I feel like the filter proper needs replaced soon too, but my Midea model is supposed to flash a little symbol that it hasn't yet

Middle kid’s fever has broken and he’s back at or below 100F now, which is excellent. He’s skipping his Friday class (he’s not concerned about missing material, as they’re doing things he can already solve in multiple ways), and next week he’ll return to class masked in 3M Auras. Regretfully I suspect he won’t mask long, but he’s staying in his room with the HEPA I installed and window cracked, masking to use the bathroom/running the exhaust after, and basically being responsible. I hate that he caught it, but I’d hate it even more if he knowingly spread it. #COVID #MasksWork #CleanAir #HEPA #N95

“Relying on #vaccinations as the measure of whether people are likely or not to transmit (#COVID) to vulnerable patients is a very dangerous strategy,” Gregory said.

Instead, he added, it would be best if everyone wore masks in public health settings whenever possible.

Mitigation measures such as properly worn #N95s, #HEPA air filtration, ventilation and avoiding high-risk areas like indoor crowded spaces are “all variant proof,” Gregory said. “No variant has evolved to circumvent an N95.”

In educational institutions:
* #HEPA cleaners and #UVC lights are effective, especially when properly sized and positioned relative to the infected and susceptible persons.
* HEPA cleaners could reduce #aerosol particle load by 85-95% within less than 20 minutes of operation.
* Implementing proper #ventilation and air cleaning strategies can create safer environments for students and staff, reducing absenteeism and promoting better learning conditions.

NSTC advice to government:

In #healthcare settings:
* Negatively pressured rooms relative to corridors help prevent contaminated air from escaping.
* High efficiency particulate air (#HEPA) cleaners reduce clearance time significantly, compared with the #HVAC systems alone.
* Using two domestic HEPA cleaners on a ward removed 99% of all #aerosols substantially faster than on wards with no air cleaners.

There are a range of #IndoorAirQuality strategies that could reduce the transmission of #airborne viruses in indoor public environments by increasing the amount of clean air for building occupants, including:
dilution of contaminated indoor air via #ventilation with cleaner air through mechanical ventilation such as heating, ventilation and air conditioning (#HVAC) systems
air cleaning technologies such as high efficient particulate air (#HEPA) cleaners… (3/4)
