To any new arrivals here on the fediverse - you are welcome here.
Any step one can make to move away from the domination of proprietary platforms, technologies and all kinds of billionaires and fascists, is a potentially good thing. Things might be confusing to you at first, as all change can be difficult. Things are definitely not perfect here either and the fediverse has its own set of problems, but there are many helpful and friendly communities here. I wish you that you find your people (and foxes, and cats etc)

I would also like to respectfully ask the people who moved here to refrain from calling yourself #TwitterRefugee or #RedditRefugee or anything like that. An alternative is simply saying that you left a certain platform, or moved away.
I would like to encourage you to learn more about what it is like to be a refugee, and if it is possible for you, consider donating to organizations that help refugees. One such example of an organization is: pah.org.pl/en/ukraine
Being a refugee is tied to a lot of harship and severe trauma, to put it mildly, and using this word to describe changing social media platforms is not adequate.

@Pepijn interesting to hear about your dilemma modding a large sub. I’m just more of lurker but was on the platform for 13 years and trying to make the switch. Here on mastodon, I put in hashtags to follow based on the name of subreddits I was in. Do you think that’s a good recommendation to have more of a Reddit-like experience on here? I never really got into Twitter. I’m also on lemmy.world seeing what that’s all about. #redditrefugee

#Welcome!

There's no algorithm here, directing people to your posts (or sending you ads😀), so be sure to use & #follow hashtags, as well as #FollowBack accounts that interest you. The more you interact with other accounts, the better your feed will be.

You should be sure to check out and follow these accounts for great helpful advice about the #Fediverse:
