Made it back to #Sudbury!
Today's air travel included a stroll through that (in)famous United neon new age "Rhapsody in Blue" tunnel in the O'Hare airport (fun fact: on my first plane ride ever, to go to Fermilab, my undergrad research advisor warned us about that tunnel as a Chicago air travel rite of passage).

Greater Anglia has been the UK’s most punctual train operator for over two years, achieving a 94.1% annual performance rate to 31 March 2025, with seven routes exceeding 95%. Despite challenges like extreme weather, routes such as #Norwich to Great Yarmouth (98.4%) and Marks Tey to #Sudbury (98.1%) delivered exceptional results. Using the stricter “Time to 3” measure, GA still achieved 93.9%. The strong performance is credited to new #trains, infrastructure improvements, and close work with Network Rail. GA also recorded the UK’s best “on time” results for seven consecutive quarters and consistently ranks among the lowest for cancellations. These results exceed GA’s original franchise targets and have earned it multiple industry awards, including Passenger Operator of the Year 2024 and Train Operator of the Year 2025.

I am looking forward to some personal travel over the next few days, visiting family and colleagues in #Wisconsin. I’ll be in Madison on Thursday evening and Friday, then in Milwaukee for the weekend before returning to #Sudbury.
This will be the first time in a LONG time that I’ve been back to my graduate school alma mater, UW-Madison. I am excited to see the campus, old mentors and new colleagues, and see how the city has changed (or not).

What a winter storm! From the perspective of relevant data, here is what that system looked like at my weather station in #Sudbury yesterday.
My station cannot measure snowfall, only rainfall, but there was a whole bunch of snow … blowing snow … it was ice-desert-level stuff yesterday and the wind was FIERCE last night, with gusts over 50 km/h.
Had a MARVELOUS time serving as a judge at the #Sudbury Regional #ScienceFair this morning. I assessed projects at the junior level of the fair in the physical science category. Thanks to all the students who submitted in this category! I always enjoy learning new things.
#Sudbury weather is a fever dream these days. Spring one afternoon, winter the next morning. But, this is exactly what I signed up for.
