After many months, we finally have an upstreamable path for merging /usr in postmarketOS and hence Alpine! Still lots of work to be done, I just ruined one of my test installations LOL. I started using Linux back in January or February 2020, and my first distro was Elementary OS 5.1. It felt like the right choice from the start.

Since then, I've tried a bunch of other distros like Arch, Fedora, Alpine, Linux Mint, Manjaro, and Paldo. But in the end, I fell in love with Debian stable.

Arch and Fedora didn't really sit with me, but I might give Arch another shot someday. Out of all the ones I tried, my top picks are Debian, Elementary, Mint, Alpine, and Paldo.

Today, I run Elementary alongside Debian on my laptop, and Debian on both my desktops. I love what Elementary does, but for me, Debian is number one, and Elementary is a close second.

I submitted a merge request to #AlpineLinux aports to get #TouchpadEmulator added. This program allows touchscreen devices to control a mouse cursor for easier use with desktop-oriented user interfaces. Merge request here:

Testers on #postmarketOS welcome, you can test with:

sudo mrtest add -a 82061

also add yourself to input group to avoid the password prompt. You can also set it to autostart with LaunchTouchpadEmulator.sh --autostart

I kind of wish there was a version of Alpine that was libc based - just for desktop NVIDIA support really.
