Weekly GNU-like #MobileLinux Update (16/2025): Counting Easter Eggs
Are there any people using #LinuxMobile (#mobian, #postmarketos, #ubports, maybe on #pinephone or #librem5) at #eh22 @linuxmobile ?
@richardwonka The "standard" #Librem5 is made in China.
The software is fully free and #opensource and can be inspected.
This post is the beginning of a thread of previous monthly #PureOS development reports:

I enjoyed reading all of them. It is great that the development can be followed in such a transparant way.
If you want to exercise your digital civil #freedom and #autonomy, and if you want to support the development of a #privacy focused #Linux phone and its operating system, head over the the #Purism shop and order a #Librem5. They are in stock.
Note that the Librem 5 is a phone that is designed from the bottom to run Linux. It is not a phone with Android originals that is now running a Linux distribution.
You fully control the phone.
The work on upgrading the operating system for the #Librem5 Linux phone is progressing well.
The work on this is funded by #Purism and people that have totally optional PureOS subscriptions.
The name of the official Purism #Linux distribution for the Librem5 is #PureOS.
The current version is #Byzantium, the next version will be #Crimson.
Taking an PureOS subscription helps funding.
There is huge progress lately, read the progress report for March 2025 here:

@dos Thanks for this very nice list. I've been using the #Librem5 for nearly three years as my daily, primary phone.
It is great to see that there is still so much potential for improvements. I hope that over time they will be added.
Thank you, and all others contributing to the #MobileLinux ecosystem for your great work!
That's all I can think of on the spot. Of course there's still the camera and GPU stuff, but these would need their own dedicated threads Feel free to hit me up if you want to hack on some of these things, I could likely offer some help and guidance.
The Librem 5 (and mobile GNU/Linux in general) has matured a lot over the years, but there are still some areas where the software stack is behind the hardware capabilities. Some of them are often talked about, such as camera quality or GPU (GLES3/Vulkan/OpenCL), but there are also lesser known ones in need of some plumbing and middleware infrastructure. Maybe you'll find something interesting to hack on there?

Many cheaper phones are built for surveillance. They keep spying on you in order to keep earning money on you when you use the phone. The #Purism products, also the #Librem5, do not spy on you, so the moment of the sell is the only point where Purism earns money.
I've been using a Librem 5 for nearly three years as my daily phone now. It is a great pleasure to exercise my #freedom and digital rights, and to be fully in control of the device I bought.
@zwarf @joshua @eliasr @batichi @linmob @phosh
I'm also using the #Librem5 as my daily, primary phone for nearly three years now. The software keeps improving. I really like to have full control over my phone. And that the software is designed to give the user freedom and power.

Weekly GNU-like #MobileLinux Update (13/2025): Crossing Platforms, Breaking Barriers
@danie10 Please add @purism As far as I know, it's still the ony company in the world that has made #LinuxOnly laptops, minis, servers, tablet, and phones as well as the OS which is #FSF-endorsed.
In all fairness, Dell shouldn't even be on the list as their XPS laptops with Linux preloaded isn't #LinuxFirst or even available except in certain countries.
