Hmm, it could be something like that! I can't reproduce the grey background on this particular computer (#Armbian #bookworm #PinebookPro), but I'll try running env - nvim
when I'm back on the other machine.

@rl_dane That "underpowered ARM laptop" I mention in https://retro.social/@patrick/114348051033107179? A #PinebookPro, currently my daily driver for non-work stuff.
I was thinking of buying a new-to-me #Thinkpad next month, but I think what I'll do instead is try to spruce up my #PinebookPro:
I need to look up some videos on applying threadlocker to screws. It's much looser stuff than the typical locktite and it tends to make a mess.
I'm debating just dribbling locktite (regular CA) on top of the screws as well to try to make them a little more permanent. Not a great solution, but the thing just loves to fall apart.
It's always best to try to #reuse! <3
Thinking of trying #postmarketOS on my #PinebookPro.
I didn't even know you could run it as a desktop OS.
Supposedly the installer supports #FullDiskEncryption, which is... "poggers," I think the kids say.
Just dug out my old #PinebookPro. It's so far out of date it'll probably be faster to just backup the files and start it from scratch. It still has an old install of #Mycroft on it.
Remember Acorn Computers, the creators of the first ARM chip and BBC Micro? Take a trip down memory lane or catch up at the RISC OS North show, which kicks off tomorrow, March 29th, in Warrington, UK.

@rl_dane Which version of #armbian do you use ?
The installation to internal storage completes without error, but it doesn't boot with error "mmc boot failed"
Regardless which image I use. I think the install script is broken, at least for my #pinebookpro
#manjaroarm is dead (no updates, Wifi doesn't work) #armbian is dead (doesn't boot from eMMC) on my #pinebookpro
#distrohopping at its worst.
I've had good luck with the #Debian - based #Armbian on my #PinebookPro
Its not very up-to-date, though, being Debian
I've given up on Arch-derivatives.
That was my last version of #manjaroarm on the #pinebookpro .
No updates for about one year, switched to unstable branch, updated 925 packages and after reboot the Wifi didn't work any more.
The error message says: "No password specified" although the password is given.
I will try #voidlinux instead, so I do no longer care about #manjaroarm .
It was a mistake buying the #pinebookpro .
Our "Coding on RISC OS" fireside chat is tomorrow, Saturday, March 1st, at 7:30 PM (UK time). Come and join us to learn and connect with others. No experience necessary. DM for credentials (no change). #Code4Fun #RISCOS #Community #OpenSource #RaspberryPi (<5) #RockChip #PinebookPro #ARM
@katzenmann Well the problem with installing #ArchLinux on an ARM device like the #PinebookPro is that, like . . . ya can't.
That is to say, one has to use some distro derived from Arch because ironically the distro only officially supports one architecture, x86_64. Or maybe that's what the name stands for, like hey it's truth in advertising it's arch singular we never promised more than one arch
I also wanted to put #NixOS on my #PinebookPro (because the preinstalled #Manjaro again wrecked itself into a no-wifi situation), but it looks annoyingly complicated
With April drawing near, I will have to rid myself of Ubuntu Focal on my #PinebookPro. Hence this question: which #Ubuntu flavour/port/whatever will run reliably on the PBP when booting from the internal eMMC?
(This broke in the combination of Armbian with Jammy. I haven't tested Noble yet; maybe someone else has.)
Boosts appreciated.
It is time to reinstall my #pinebookpro
What distro should I use? I currently use debian with an older kernel, but it would be nice to be more up to date.
I mostly use the terminal on it, so no fancy GUI needed (not fancy, but basic atleast)
Ideas?
OK.
As my #PineBookPro with #Manjaro quite often loses its #NetworkDevice, #Bluetooth or just the #KDE Plasma I now run #fsck on my now broken 4.5 TB external #USB drive on #TTY 3.
I hate & love my own stupidity. I learn so much in so short time.
+hehehe+
