Planter un milliard d'arbres en dix ans : l'objectif du gouvernement pour « sauver » nos forêts est critiqué depuis plusieurs années par les ONG environnementales. Cette fois, c'est le directeur par intérim du Secrétariat général à la planification écologique, placé sous l'autorité de Matignon, qui pointe les dérives de politiques publiques favorisant les plantations après coupes rases.

Received wisdom in #Silviculture is that #Clearfell or #Clearcut coupes mimic nature in #fireclimax habitats. While I agree clearcut / restock can be brutal & we are heavily over-reliant on the system, it seems 'bold' to outlaw it entirely, regardless of scale. Surely local production and 'better' rather than 'less' silviculture would provide #timber for less #carbon intensive #building solutions

@mustapipa even better if the reforestation efforts are well thought through in terms of species and within species diversity seeded or planted (planted seedlings are less drought resistant than seedlings that had grown from seeds in situ) : nearly one in three tree species are on the IUCN redlist, #reforestation would be a chance to get these locally out of the redlist.

If a #Forest #Harvesting site looks like this, was the site poorly managed or was the #HarvestingSystem wrong in the first place? The owner probably doesn't care as long as the max income rolls in. Either way this MUST be in breach of #UKWAS It's certainly an embarrassment to the harvesting company. We need better #silviculture now, or we lose #fragile #soil and future #Timber production
